NATHALIE DJURBERG: Snakes Knows it's Yoga. Music by Hans Berg
27/8 - 13/11 - 2011
The exhibition Snakes Knows it’s Yoga presents a major piece of work by the Swedish artist Nathalie Djurberg and her composer and fellow countryman Hans Berg. The exhibition in GL STRAND consists of both films and a comprehensive sculptural installation.
The exhibition displays three animations: Greed (2009), Untitled (2010), and Snakes Knows it’s Yoga (2010) among a plethora of exhibition cases filled with strange and unsettling characters. In the sculptures as well as in the films, the artist examines man's need for belief, submission and devotion. The exhibition has a wide gallery of characters consisting of plasticine puppets staged as meditating yogis, orthodox priests, flaggelants, fabulous monsters and naked women. In scenes of sexual and ritual submission and violence the artworks put focus on man’s search for meaning.
Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg have in the last few years gained international recognition for their claymation short films with an intense soundtrack. The claymation films are created with a very time consuming animation technique. Djurberg’s artistic universe draws on the classic fairy tales and childhood imagery, but are graphically violent and erotic. At the Venice Biennale in 2009, the couple won the prestigious Silver Lion for their work The Experiment.
The exhibition has been created in close cooperation with the artists, kestnergesellschaft Hannover and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam

FILM / KUNST. ART MOVES #1
3/9 - 13/11 - 2011
At the exhibition FILM / KUNST, film has been invited into the world of visual art and vice versa. Four visual artists and four film directors working in pairs have created new works each consisting of a film and a spatial installation that extends the artistic universe of the film. The participating film directors are known for their work with feature films, music videos and documentaries, while the visual artists work in genres like painting, graphics, photography, ceramics, sculpture and installations.
The exhibition can be seen as a confrontation where director and visual artist have entered unknown territory and challenged each other’s habitual practice. Over the past six months they have cooperated on all the phases of the project from idea and concept development to the shooting and editing of the film, and the final spatial installation in the exhibition.
FILM / KUNST focuses on what happens when film and visual art are fused. What new stories and what kind of artistic sensibility grow out of the encounter between the two media? What is the experience of the work when the viewer not only sees the film, but at the same time enters a three-dimensional artwork that combines the temporal universe of the film with a bodily, sensory experience?
FILM / KUNST is the first part of a new exhibition series, ART MOVES, that explores the intersection between different media and artistic idioms. ART MOVES consists of a total of three exhibitions.
The exhibition FILM / KUNST has been created in collaboration with Fridthjof Film.
The films have been produced by Fridthjof Film and are supported by New Danish Screen.
ART MOVES is supported by the Nordea Foundation.

KIRSTINE ROEPSTORFF - STORIES
26th sept. 2010 - 13th nov. 2011
THE MEETING ROOM is a special place in Kunstforeningen GL STRAND. It's art, it's an installation, it's design and it's the framework for a meeting. In The Meeting Room the meeting is spatially center-stage. Changing artists and designers challenge the influences the spatial framework have on meetings between people.
Kirstine Roepstorff is one the Danish artists that is about to break through internationally. She is famous for working with appropriations where images of mass media are reused in a new and surprising context, often in spectacular, vivid and colourful setups in a great number of different materials. In the project: STORIES in GL STRAND she adapts her work, and creatively rethinks the spatial layout of a meeting room.
